How to prepare
For Your Driving Lessons With
StreetSmart Driving
We often get asked by first-time learners if there’s anything they can do before they start their lessons with us to help them get ready for their test as quick as possible. Below are some of our favourite tips:
01.
Read The Highway Code
I know, it’s a boring step, but it’s one that all drivers have to do! Knowing the theory behind driving early makes it much easier to focus on driving techniques during lessons. We would recommend starting with the free Highway Code app below and learning road signs and rules.
02.
Get Familiar With The Basics
Learning the layout of an automatic/manual car is a vital step for any potential driver. If you have friends or family with a car, we’d suggest asking them to sit in the car with you and take some time to explain each part of the car.
03.
Choose Lesson Times When You’re Alert
Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, it’s important to recognise what times of the day you are most alert at. Try booking your lessons around these times, as being alert whilst learning can help you master techniques quicker.
04.
Be Open With Your Instructor
Our instructors are trained to help any type of driver. From anxious drivers to neurodivergent, StreetSmart Driving instructors believe that everyone has the ability to learn how to drive. Some people just need a little bit of support, and there’s nothing wrong with that!
05.
Set Yourself Small Goals For Each Lesson
No one is going to be Lewis Hamilton after one lesson (sadly), but don’t let this discourage you. Learning to drive is all about achieving small milestones, and it’s important to set yourself small goals. Goals like trying not to stall the car or taking off without any hiccups are a good place to start!
06.
Keep A Calm & Positive Mindset
Making mistakes is all a part of the learning process, and our instructors know this. Try to see mistakes as an opportunity to learn, rather than a sign that you can’t drive. Each mistake presents an opportunity to learn how it happened and how you can fix it!
These guys passed. You could be next!
Frequently Asked Questions
No Fluff,
Just Answers!
At StreetSmart Driving, we pride ourselves on offering complete transparency and support throughout your learning journey. To make things easier, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions by learners.
Do you have female driving instructors?
Yes, we do! We have a female automatic instructor who’s available Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and she’s great at helping learners feel comfortable and confident.
How much is a driving lesson with StreetSmart Driving?
Our hourly rate is £45 for automatic and £40 for manual lessons. To ensure you receive the most value from your session, we schedule lessons for a minimum of two hours. We find that two-hour lessons are more effective and provide you with more opportunities to drive and learn!
Can anyone learn to drive with StreetSmart Driving, regardless of experience, confidence level, or background?
Yes! Everyone can learn to drive, and we tailor our lessons to suit each individual’s needs and confidence level. If you have anything specific you wish to talk about, then feel free to reach out to the team and see how we can support you.
How many lessons will I need?
Hm, that’s a great question. Let’s find out together! Each learner requires a different amount of time. We’ve had some learners be test-ready in as few as 10 lessons. However, it’s hard to say without knowing you as a driver and any potential advantages or challenges you may bring. But, rest assured, we’ll try our absolute hardest to get you test ready as quickly as possible.
Can you help me find an earlier driving test date?
We can! We recommend that all our students use TestShift UK or DrivingScout to ensure they can schedule a test date as quickly as possible. With a small upfront cost, the app can track cancellations at your local test centre and submit a request to swap your date with the cancelled one, all while you sit back and relax.
